The Green Finance Academy Trainings and Innovation Lab – a collaborative partnership between the Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA), Uganda Bankers’ Association (UBA), SEED Practitioner Labs Climate Finance and GO4SDGs – offers an exclusive opportunity to commercial banks in Uganda with key ecosystem actors to strengthen the financial sector’s capacity to successfully finance green small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and environmental-related projects. Trainings with innovation lab will run from December 2021 - March 2022. The Academy is funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.

UGEFA officially opened the first call for applications in October 2020 to kick start the admission of enterprises to the Programme.

In the first cycle, UGEFA received over 85 applications, 35 of which were qualified to be the first batch of enterprises supported by the programme. These enterprises work across different sectors, including waste management, sustainable transport and mobility, agro-processing, clean energy and others.

Green businesses in Uganda are being urged to apply to an accelerator programme that offers free finance-focused workshops and discounted loans to help them scale up.

The Ugandan Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA) is looking to help high-potential small and medium-sized enterprises that specialise in eco-tourism, clean energy, sustainable transport, waste management and green manufacturing, including agro-processing, turning raw crops in finished products like textiles and dried fruit.
